Can I go in the sun after a hair transplant?
The short answer
Usually from day 180, if your clinic agrees.
Day by day
- Days 0–13Not yet
Keep the grafted area out of direct sun. Stay in the shade; if you have to go out, wear the loose hat your clinic approved. Sunscreen goes on healing skin only if your clinic says so.
- Days 14–179Careful
Protect the grafted area every time the UV index is 3 or more: shade and a hat first. Ask your clinic when you can use sunscreen on the scalp. Sunburn on new skin is worth avoiding.
- From day 180Yes
Normal sun sense: a hat or sunscreen on the scalp when the UV index is 3 or more, and shade in the middle of the day.
